Dad deserves the best! He puts up with our crap all year, so let’s take a day and spoil him with what he wants most. A mistress. Kidding! He wants Scotch. A really nice tasty Scotch. Below are 4 of my favorite scotches for 2019 Father’s Day. Most importantly, dad wants you to enjoy a dram or two with him. So if you need, add an ice cube or a drop of water, but never make a cocktail with it, and celebrate the man who made you possible.
PS. If you have more than a glass or two, you’re going to need a Sly Fox Hangover Patch. Trust me! If you’re not a skilled scotch drinker, you’ll feel it the next day, or more.
4 Exceptional Scotches For Father’s Day 2019
The Macallan edition no. 3
Highland Park Full Volume 1999
The Dalmore 15 Year
The Arran Cask Finish Series Port
The Macallan edition no. 3
Inspiration and innovation lie at the heart of The Macallan and nowhere is this more evident than in The Edition Series. Edition No. 3 brings to life the flavor experience of The Macallan through aroma, calling on Master Perfumer Roja Dove’s remarkable sensory knowledge and expert sense of smell to create the third unique expression in the series. Borne of two art forms, Edition No. 3 unites the worlds of whisky and aroma to reveal the complexities of single malt character and the power of the senses in creating and experiencing The Macallan. When we experience and enjoy whisky, the power of aroma is unquestionable – and it is this power that makes the approach to Edition No. 3 truly mesmerizing.
Highland Park Full Volume 1999
For musicians, amps and equalizers maintain critical balance at high volume by fine-tuning musical frequencies – at Highland Park, our Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, does a similar job.
FULL VOLUME was created using 100% ex-bourbon casks rather than our traditional sherry-seasoned ones. During 1999, a combination of 481 casks – 200 litre barrels and 250 litre hogsheads – were filled at strengths of between 63.6% and 63.7%. The whisky was filtered at just over 4oC and delivers flavors of creamy vanilla and sweet citrus fruits from the bourbon casks, balanced by Highland Park’s characteristic aromatic smokiness.
The Dalmore 15 Year
The Dalmore 15 is smooth, rich and well rounded; the epitome of The Dalmore house style. A favorite expression in the Dalmore stable, this 15-year-old is elegant and smooth, with lip-smacking texture and the flawless balance one would expect from blending maestro Richard Paterson. The 15 is the bomb and worth every penny.
The Dalmore 15 year old is smooth, rich and well rounded; the epitome of The Dalmore house style. This delicate and approachable vintage is initially matured for 12 years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks. The character of The Dalmore 15 is achieved by then splitting the whisky equally between three different sherry woods; Amoroso, Apostoles and Matusalem oloroso for a further three years. The spirit is finally married together in an upstanding sherry butt, allowing the flavors to infuse. Aroma: Orange marmalade, cinnamon and nutmeg. Palate: Mandarin, vanilla, ginger. Finish: Christmas spice and oak.
The Arran Cask Finish Series Port
A new expression from Arran that was released in 2010. After initially maturing in xBourbon casks, this was ‘finished’ in a selection of Port wine casks sourced from an artisan and iconic Portuguese producer. Typically ruby port barrels are preferred over vintage port casks, the former adding bright fruity notes. Bottling at 50% makes for additional body and complexity.
Tasting note: Offers all the pure barley goodness associated with this distillery and with minimal spirit flare, the port adding further interest with suggestions of berry tart and dried cranberry on the nose. Full bodied and beautifully poised with juicy malt dovetailing into a zesty, nutty end. One of our favourite port finishes to date. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Of all the excellent Arran whiskies currently on the market, Port Cask has got to be one of the best. Its incredible richness, partnered with that intense bottling strength of 50%, make for one hell of an enjoyable dram. With a drop of water, Arran Port Cask becomes almost a different whisky entirely, meaning you get to just keep exploring layer upon layer of Arran lushness.
